Student School Meal Debt
We Need Your Support!
Students’ meal debt in Loudoun County is at an all-time high, now totaling more than $100,000 across the district. You can help these families forgive that debt by providing a tax-deductible donation to the Loudoun Education Foundation.
Meal debt is incurred only by students in families that do not qualify for the federal Free and Reduced-Price Meal Program. But many families’ incomes fall just above the federal requirement, yet they still cannot afford school meals.
Cafeteria team members do not address students who are short on funds to cover the cost of their breakfast or lunch. Instead, the students are provided meals, and families who have unpaid meal debt receive weekly email reminders of funds owed.
You Can Help!
Through your generosity, we can help the most vulnerable wipe off these debts.

More Than Meets the Eye
Forgiving student school meal debt has significant academic benefits that extend beyond financial relief, including:
Improved student focus and concentration in the classroom;
Enhanced emotional well-being of our students and their families;
Increased student attendance and engagement;
Reduced stigma and social isolation;
Greater equity and access to educational resources;
Strengthened school-community relationships:
By alleviating the burden of meal debt, schools can create a more equitable learning environment and support the academic success of all students.
For more than 30 years, the Loudoun Education Foundation has demonstrated how community support can make meaningful educational impacts in the classroom and beyond. As an independent nonprofit, we engage our community to invest in critical and innovative programs that foster academic success and the well-being of students and educators. We fund programs that stimulate students’ curiosity, create exceptional learning opportunities, and provide needed resources to educators, students and families.
