Student & Teacher Scholarships

The Foundation is pleased to award scholarships to qualified graduating seniors from each of Loudoun County's public high schools. Current Loudoun County Public teachers are also eligible to receive scholarships for pursuing graduate degrees or advanced training.

Scholarships for Graduating Seniors

Background:  The Foundation grants scholarship awards each year in the amount of $2,000 to one student from each Loudoun County Public High School.

Scholarship Criteria: Applicants must attend a four-year college or university preparing for a career in education in order to qualify.  Preference is given to students with:

  • An interest in and excitement for learning. This does not require or imply that the student must have the highest grade point average; however a transcript must be included with the application.
  • An interest in becoming a teacher and in returning to seek employment with Loudoun County Public Schools.
  • Extra-curricular and community activities that show an interest in and commitment to teaching.

One scholarship recipient will be chosen from each of Loudoun County's public high schools. Prior to July 1, each recipient will be required to provide evidence that he/she is enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited institution of higher learning.

Application Process Candidates should submit applications to the Foundation through their school guidance office.  Incomplete scholarship applications will not be considered.  The deadline for 2010 applications is Tuesday, April 6, 2010. The Foundation will notify all candidates about its decisions before the end of May.

Graduate Program Scholarships for Teachers

Background: The Loudoun Education Foundation is pleased to announce that five scholarships for graduate programs are available to current Loudoun County Public School teachers who are seeking endorsements in critical teaching shortage areas. The Claude Moore Foundation has funded the scholarships for $5,000 each.

Scholarship Criteria: Applicants must:

  • Have taught at least two full years in LCPS. (This does note include current year.)
  • Be enrolled in an endorsement program or have an application pending.
  • Intend to obtain licensure in one of the following areas: Chemistry, English-as-a-Second Language, Family and Consumer Sciences, High School Mathematics, Instructional Technology, Latin, Library Media, Physics, Special Education, and Technology Education.
  • Agree to teach two years in LCPS after gaining licensure or repay the scholarship immediately upon leaving the teaching position with LCPS.
